Well, today is the day. It is the day filled with love. Valentine’s Day! No matter who you are, you have an opinion about this day. Do you feel there is too much “love” or not enough? Do you feel like this is the perfect holiday? Or, just a day for Hallmark and chocolate factories to sell more product?

If you despise this day, then chances are you have had a bad experience. Perhaps you feel like your sweetheart will be upset if you don’t by that 10’ teddy bear. Well, I don’t know who is reading this so, I don’t know you nor do I know your sweetheart. I guarantee she will not be angry if you don’t get that giant teddy bear. Perhaps just a 5’ bear would be enough. wink That is, as long as you have chocolates to go with the bear.

What is the best Valentine? Is it so important to give candy and treats? Do you need to buy that plush toy or large bouquet? Or, is it more the thoughtful words which may come in card and written form? Is it better to be told about that love, or to be shown that love?

How about a little bit of both?

Well, isn’t that what God does? Even if you don’t have a sweetheart or you struggle with this day of love, you have God and his unending love. He tells you that love:

Jeremiah 31:3: The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

Zephaniah 3:17: The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you but will rejoice over you with singing.”

John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 15:13-14a:  Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends.

Psalm 86:15: But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

1 John 3:1: See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

1 John 4:8: Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 John 4:16: And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

What you do see in all those passages (and believe me, there are PLENTY more)? I see a whole lotta love! And, this love from God doesn’t just come on one day a year, like Valentine’s Day. This is 365/24/7 (or 366 like this Leap Year). It is constant. It is love. And, this love is from God to YOU! But, it is so much more than just telling you about that love. This is also God showing you that love: Galatians 2:20: I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

God tells you of his love; then he shows you his love! Jesus, on the cross, giving his life so you will have life! God’s love poured out for you, unashamedly, unconditionally, unendingly. God’s eternal love! FOR YOU!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
