The Title That Matters

When you meet someone for the first time, what do you do? Perhaps the first thing is to tell them your name. But, do you ever add a description? Do you add titles? “Hello, my name is _____ and I am a pastor/teacher/doctor/student etc.” Those are titles. Many of those titles we earn. We go to school for years to earn specific titles. And, perhaps the longer you go to school, the more boastful you may be of your title. There are some titles we do not earn, but are given....

Your Christmas Gift? Eternal Help!

By now you have been inundated with all things Christmas. I say that, not in a negative way but in a very positive way. I know many of us shed tears during this time. How can you not?! The music alone causes a challenge to get through without your eyes watering just a little. Holidays are times when families get together. Sadness can come when one or more of those family members are no longer with us. But, those tears are not always sad. There is a reason why we CELEBRATE Christmas. We...

It's GOD'S Word, Not Ours

Do you want to know the hardest thing you can do? Pastor, seriously, the HARDEST thing!? Yes, the hardest thing. Ready? It is to keep the first commandment. “You shall have no other gods.” Oh, I get it, there are several commandments which are also very difficult to keep. But, if you break any of those other commandments, then you have already broken the first. You haven’t put God FIRST in everything. You didn’t put your love for him first; your love for his word...

Jesus IS King

How would you define a king? Strong? Powerful? Dominant? …Defeated??? Wait, that last one does not make any sense. If a king is ever defeated in battle, they will no longer be king. The one who defeated them would now be king. This Sunday is known as Christ the King Sunday. How do you picture Jesus as King? Do you picture him on his throne? Do you see him commanding angels (Psalm 91:11)? Do you imagine him with people bowing low, unworthy to look upon the face of that Holy...

Look to the LORD for Strength

He was never the biggest, in fact many times he was the smallest one in any group. He had older brothers who would insist he wasn’t welcomed to join them on their adventures because he was too little. It was then when he developed a saying, “I can do it myself!” He would use that phrase to prove to others he was big enough, strong enough to handle anything. His brothers would want to climb a tree. They would tell him he was too little. They would ask,...

Always Remember

Yesterday was a day of reflection. 18 years ago to the day (yesterday – September 11th) our world, our country, our lives were changed. Evil seemed to have the upper hand. Planes crashed; lives were lost. Those who orchestrated it were proud. They wanted destruction. They wanted death. What did you do yesterday? Many people over the last 18 years have stated – We will never forget! That day is one many will remember always. And, it is so important to remember – remember...

It Truly IS Finished!

Do you want to hear a true yet horrible thought? I will warn you, this thought is so much worse than any scary movie you may have seen or any horrible news report you may have heard. Ready? If God doesn’t do what God promised to do about my sin, there is nothing I can do to change it! If God doesn’t take away my sin like he said he would, what difference can I make? Ok, so you knew that already. How can you sleep at night?! What would happen if God didn’t keep his...

God's Commands...for Our Good

Have you ever tried to train a pet? We had a dog for a while. Although we were able to train our dog to do a few things (i.e. sit, shake, ring a bell to let us know it was time to go outside), there were many things which we were not able to train her to do. It can be frustrating when dealing with animals and trying to get them to do something, or not do something. Animals can’t think like we do and each animal can be smarter (or not as smart) than any other animal. I think of this...

Jesus is Willing

I couldn’t imagine what it felt like. We read in the Bible of some of the diseases the people had. Can you name one of them? I would guess many of you thought of leprosy. Would it surprise you that leprosy is still around today? There is an actual leper colony in the USA. It is in Hawaii. So, I guess, if you are going to get leprosy…Hawaii wouldn’t be such a bad place to be. But, it did seem like more people had it during Bible Times. One such person approached Jesus...

One for All

Are you ever accidentally smart?  No, I am not insulting you, at least not trying to insult you. I know I have been accidentally funny in the past. I was not trying to make people laugh but it happened. But, how about being accidentally smart or accidentally right about something? If you are very smart, then more than likely it isn’t on accident. You can’t get a perfect ACT score accidentally. But, have you ever had that conversation – “Oh Greg, you...
