Our God...The FAITHFUL God!

It is that time of year again. Many churches have already had confirmation. Some are still waiting. There will be small class sizes to very large class sizes. But, each confirmation class will have one thing in common…they will all make a vow to Jesus to be faithful. More than likely the passage from Revelation will be said at least once on that day: Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life (Revelation 2:10). But, how many of those vows will...

I See Your Future And...It Is Great!

If I told you I could tell your future, would you want to know it? I suppose I should ask first, do you believe I could tell your future? Then if you think I could…would you want to know that future? It actually doesn’t take much to be able to see your future. All it takes is a pattern of past events which can help to predict the future. So, look at your past. What do you see? I don’t even know who is reading this, yet I will tell you your past. Is it full of sin?...

Bring Your Children (And Yourself) to Jesus!

Do you know everything the government does each and every day? Do you know the decisions they make and how that will impact your life today and for years to come? Nope, I know what you are thinking and this is NOT going to be a blog about our government. But, there is a point (I hope). I read a devotion this morning in preparation for Holy Week. In it, the devotion talked about the 10 plagues of Egypt. You can read those in Exodus 7-12. But, a thought occurred to me as I was reading...

Good Works...NECESSARY?!

Earlier this week I was asked to do a blog on good works. By the way, if you would like me to write on a topic, please let me know. I am always looking for ideas. The topic of good works could be a long series of blogs, but I will just write on whether or not good works are necessary. Early church fathers debated this topic. Martin Luther (shortly after God’s word revealed to him that Jesus was the ONLY way to heaven) felt that such books like James should not be in the Bible....

Followed by Jesus' Goodness and Love

Do you ever feel like you are being followed by someone or something?  Ok, I am not trying to creep you out.  But, have you ever had that feeling? Perhaps a better question is – do you ever feel like worry or trouble or hardship follow you wherever you go?  Do you look for that silver lining only to feel like it is never there? I don’t want to go back to my previous week about optimist vs. pessimist.  Perhaps this is more like being a realist. ...

With Jesus, Your Glass is Always Full!

Are you an optimist?  Or are you a pessimist? I am sure that we would all like to be optimists, but perhaps situations of life have left you feeling more like a pessimist.  Maybe you have tried. Maybe you have looked for that silver lining in all circumstances. But, then life happened. The silver lining went away. Now you are a little more cautious.  Maybe acting that way makes you feel like the highs of life may not be so high; but the lows of life are not so...

Do Not Fear for Jesus is Here!

Have you ever read a Bible passage differently because of something which happened in your life?  Last Saturday, I experienced something I have never experienced before and never want to experience again.  I thought I had a heart attack.  Turns out it was a Panic Attack.  They mimic each other.  Impending doom.  I thought I kissed my children goodnight for the last time.  I was truly thankful that it was a panic attack instead. A few days later I was...

Soul Refreshed!

As I am writing this, we are in between seasons. Punxsutawney Phil (the groundhog used for Groundhogs Day) predicted an early Spring this year.  That was almost 3 weeks ago, yet we are getting some nasty (rain, snow, sleet mix) weather today.  I guess we shouldn’t count on a rodent to predict the future, huh? But a day like today reminds me that I, like so many people, suffer from S.A.D.  I know I have mentioned it before.  It stands for seasonal affective...

Green Pastures; Quiet Waters

What do sheep want?  They are simple creatures.  They don’t want large television screens or fancy clothes.  They want to eat; they want to drink. And, like the rest of us, they would like to do both of those in peace. Imagine trying to enjoy either of those with the threat of death around you.  Now listen to our passage from Psalm 23:2: He makes me lie down in green pastures.  He leads me beside quiet waters.  Sounds great, doesn’t it? So, we...

He is Your Shepherd

Over the next 6 blogs, I would like to focus on a very familiar Psalm, Psalm 23.  Each passage of that Psalm is rich in God’s love for us.  This first blog will then focus on the first passage: The LORD is my Shepherd; I lack nothing (Psalm 23:1).  You know the words, but do you believe the words? “I lack nothing!  Really??? I’ve looked at my back account!  I see the repairs my house needs.  I see how my car keeps breaking down.  I...
